ARC EMPLOYEE AWARDED THE ARC OF MARYLAND CONVENTION AWARD

[ABERDEEN, MD] - The Arc is pleased to announce that Kim Good an employee for over thirteen years at The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region, has been awarded the 2006 Gilbert John Zucchi Outstanding Arc Employee of the Year-Direct Care Award to be presented at The Arc of Maryland Convention in May.

Recently transferring to a newly created position in "Community Partners" at The Arc. As Community Partners Coordinator, Kim faces the challenges of charting new territory with determination and commitment. Requiring all the skills and experience she possesses to deliver on the promise of "Community Partners", Kim has gone the extra mile to create the community experiences and connections the people she supports value.

For years, Kim has demonstrated her dedication to ensuring people with disabilities become valuable and valued members of their communities. She has helped people find work and learn new jobs. She consistently makes insightful contributions to planning and supports. She has made contacts and created connections with individuals and organizations to ensure community-integrated options and opportunities.

Tim Quinn, Executive Director at The Arc adds, "Kim's commitment goes beyond work hours. Kim routinely includes people who lack families nearby to become part of her own - whether for a weeknight meal or holiday celebration. Her entire family has become interested and involved in relationships with people with disabilities and more formal volunteer efforts for The Arc as a result of Kim's obvious enthusiasm."

Other Arc of Maryland award nominees affiliated with The Arc include Jennifer Baker, Reginald Gambrell, Anisa Harris, Sherry Hawkins , Angelo Herbert. Shelby and Roger McLaughlin, Kim and Rusty Shuler, and Hollin Weaver.

Kim was among a number of award recipients and some 300 people including those persons with developmental disabilities, families, caregivers, educators, employers and community leaders that attended the annual convention on May 12-13, 2006 at the Clarion Resort Fountainbleau Hotel in Ocean City, Maryland. This year's sessions looked at employment and transportation best practices, unified sports, inclusive childcare and education, medical and futures planning, assistive technology and stem cell research.

The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region is a local chapter of The Arc of Maryland, which is part of a National, State and Local organization. In Maryland, The Arc's local chapters provide an array of services for people of all ages and their families and the state office in Annapolis works actively on legislative issues and public policy.

The Arc offers a wide variety of services to individuals with developmental disabilities in Harford and Cecil County, both children and adults, to make informed choices in their lifestyles, vocations, education and recreational pursuits, and to assure stable and nurturing lives among their families and friends.
